Mardi Gras

Traced back to Medieval Europe – Mardi Gras originated from a traditional revelry called Beoef Gras – or Fatted Calf from Rome and Venice to France and eventually to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Over time the secret societies and societal balls evolved into a Mardi Gras Carnival whereby the Krewes would march in a lavish parade. New Orleanians often refer to Mardi Gras as the ‘Greatest Free Show on Earth’. If you are lucky enough to be on a float – you will have the best seat in the town! Uptown watching is more familial and you will see a lot of ladders with tool boxes mounted on top for the little ones.

Even though there are families – you will certainly see eye opening costumes! French Quarter watching is for the brave and non-chlosterphoebic! Try and score a balcony way in advance or at least a reservation at a restaurant with a balcony, a bar and a restroom!
