SKI

Snow in the know… here are my faves:

  • Park City Excellent quality powder. Consistent snowfall. Mix of groomers, steeps, moguls and trees. I’m never bored at Park City - there’s enough territory to explore for days. Fresh, dry, floatable snow. The largest resort in the U.S.

  • Deer Valley 5 star resort with an abundance of powder. Premier ski-in and ski-out lodging. You will be pampered here without a doubt. Customer service is above par. Grooming is world-class and famous around the world. One of the best ski schools in the country. Don’t get me started on the food… see Stein Eriksen’s restaurants. Top notch lift system - try and score the heated chairs and warm your buns going up the hill. I love Deer Valley on a bluebird day as the mountain is exposed to the elements… if it’s windy or stormy visibility is bad. Also, it’s not ideal for the expert skiers if they need a fix.

  • Snowbasin Away from he masses. It's verticals are bananas. One of America’s oldest ski areas, it hosted the 2002 Olympics. The ‘cafeteria’ food is phenomenal. Look all around on a sunny day - you’ll see surrounding states. Fantastic groomers. Wide open bowls, chutes, and treed gullies. Go early in the season to avoid sticky snow on the east facing mountain.

  • Alta Bare bones, no-frills skiing. Fluffy powder. Typically boasts the most snow than all the other ski resorts. Steep ungroomed chutes and tree runs. Snowbird - I’ll get to that in a second - is right next door. You can get a ticket to ski both - Do it. Another mile up, Alta is skiers only - no snowboarders. Love the old-school two seat fixed chairs. Telemarkers - this is your place. Pure raw skiing.

  • Snowbird Next to Alta - features great rugged terrain for experts. Deep powder. North facing. Continual fresh and light powder. Snowbird’s season is also longer than Alta… I’ve seen it open in the summer! Groomers + easy blacks to get you warmed up… then right into the good stuff. Some of the best skiing ever. The tunnel that connects the two is awesome too… the conveyor will move you and dump you on the backside. This is for the big dogs… not a good for the newbies.

  • Brighton Utah’s first ski area and one of the oldest in the US. Reliably good snow. Smooth groomers to tree runs and narrow chutes. Fun terrain parks. Less crowded than Park City or Snowbird. Loyal locals give it a friendly vibe. Less expensive.
