Balise Tavern

A sister restaurant to La Petite Grocery… Balise was high on my list for a Jazz Fest trip last year with a bunch of Midwesterners!

We reserved a table on their front porch just off of Carondelet Street – well in advance.

Fantastic night! Weather was perfect – early May. We started with: Shaved Brussel Sprouts, Chicken Liver Mousse & Biscuits, Baked Rigatoni with Pork Cheek Ragout & Grilled Octopus and Yes! I tried them all. The rigatoni was one of the best things I’ve ever had! A few of the entrée favorites were: Gulf Fish and Shrimp Stew, Strip Steak & Fried Chicken Sandwich – but play close attention to the specials – there were so many amazing options for that night in addition to the menu. Small but wonderful wine list – the Charles Bove French Rose we had was yummy and perfectly paired with the sticky toffee pudding and crème brulee that were being passed around the table.
